How it works

  1. Choose one image. 512 pixels or more gives the best result.
  2. If it is not square, pick crop or pad, then type your site name.
  3. Press Generate and download the zip file.

Why this tool

  • Your file stays on your computer. There is no upload.
  • favicon.ico holds the 16, 32 and 48 pixel sizes.
  • PNG set: 16, 32, 180 (Apple), 192 and 512 pixels.
  • site.webmanifest and an HTML setup note are included.
  • The background stays clear, or takes the color you pick.

A favicon is not one file. The browser tab wants a small square. A Windows shortcut expects an ICO. An iPhone looks for a 180 pixel PNG when you add a site to the home screen. An installed web app asks for 192 and 512 pixel icons in the manifest. So you need a set, built from one image.

The tool opens the source once and draws every size from it. The favicon.ico holds 16, 32 and 48 pixel squares, so one file carries three sizes. On the PNG side it makes 16, 32, 180, 192 and 512 pixels. It adds site.webmanifest and a note file with the setup lines.

For an image that is not square there are two actions. Crop the center fills the icon and cuts the edges. That suits a logo mark. Fit and pad keeps all of the image and leaves space at the sides. That suits a logo with a long word. A logo with text is rarely readable at 16 pixels, so use the mark alone.

The Apple icon never uses transparency, because iOS paints a clear area black. The tool fills that one file for you.

If your source is a vector, drop the SVG here. You do not need to make a large PNG first.

Frequently asked questions

Does my file go to a server?

No. The work runs in your browser. Your file never leaves your computer.

How large should the source be?

Use at least 512x512 pixels. From a smaller source, the 192 and 512 pixel icons look soft, and the tool shows a warning.

Why both ICO and PNG?

ICO is needed for old browsers and Windows shortcuts. The PNG files serve modern browsers, the Apple home screen icon and the app manifest.

Why is the Apple icon not transparent?

iOS shows a transparent area as black. The tool always puts a background on the 180 pixel Apple icon. The other icons follow your choice.

Where do the files go?

Put them all in the root of your site. The note inside the zip holds the ready lines for the head section.

Can I use an SVG source?

Yes. The SVG is rendered at 512 pixels wide and the icons come from that.
