How it works

  1. Choose your PDF file or drag it into the drop area.
  2. Press Convert to Word and wait for the job to finish.
  3. Download the DOCX file and start editing.

Why this tool

  • Text, paragraphs and heading structure come across.
  • Tables arrive as tables, so the cells hold together.
  • Images are embedded in the document.
  • The file goes to our server and is deleted within 1 hour.
  • Free limits: 50 MB per file and 20 jobs per day.

A PDF is good for sharing and poor for editing. When you hold only the PDF of a contract and have to add a clause, update a section of an old report, or fill a form somebody sent you, the document has to become editable again.

During the conversion the tool reads the text blocks on the page, works out the paragraph and heading structure, splits tables into cells and embeds the images. The result opens in Word, in LibreOffice Writer and in Google Docs. You can select the text, delete it and write over it.

Set your expectations correctly. A PDF stores a picture drawn on a page. Word stores flowing text. An exact translation between those two models is not possible, in any product. Plain reports and contracts come out very close. Magazine pages with several columns, graphic-heavy slides and free layouts can move their boxes, so plan one clean-up pass after the conversion.

A scanned PDF has no text layer and needs "OCR PDF" first. If you only need the words, "PDF to Text" runs in your browser and never sends your file anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Does my file go to a server?

Yes. The conversion runs on our server, because the work is heavy. The file travels over an encrypted connection and is deleted when the job ends, within 1 hour at the latest.

Will the result look identical?

No, and no tool can promise that. A PDF holds a page drawing while Word holds flowing text. Plain documents come out very close. Multi-column and graphic layouts shift.

Does it work on a scanned PDF?

A scanned page is an image and holds no text. Run "OCR PDF" on it first, then bring the result here.

What are the limits?

Free use allows 50 MB per file and 20 jobs per day. Pro allows 2 GB per file.

Can I convert a password-protected PDF?

A file that asks for a password to open must first go through "Unlock PDF".

I only need the words. Is there a simpler way?

Yes. "PDF to Text" runs in your browser, keeps your file on your device and returns a TXT file in seconds.
