About
Filewand is a set of file tools. The goal is simple. Do your usual file task without an account, and without an upload.
How it started
The story started with one tool. An edit built in CapCut did not move to Premiere Pro. Video editors rebuilt the timeline by hand. We wrote a small converter for this task.
The converter ran in the browser from the start. The reason was practical. Nobody wants to upload a raw edit file to an unknown server.
The tool worked. Then the same question came back in other forms. "How do I split this PDF." "How do I make this image smaller." "How do I open a HEIC photo from an iPhone." We saw that one answer fits all of them. That answer is a set of tools that runs in the browser, asks for no account, and states its limits. Filewand is that set.
The old CapCut and Premiere Pro tool is still here. The code did not change. It only moved into the set.
Principles
Process in the browser
Most tools run on your device. The file does not leave your computer. This is the fastest way and the safest way. You do not wait for an upload and a download.
Use the server only when necessary, and say so
Some conversions cannot run in a browser. Office documents, text recognition (OCR), and heavy PDF compression are examples. These tools run on our server. The tool page marks them with a badge. The file comes on an encrypted connection. We delete it when the task ends, and always within 60 minutes. We do not log the file name.
No account
You do not register to use the tools. We do not ask for your email. We do not keep passwords. If you buy Pro, you get a key, not an account.
State the limits
We write what each tool does and what it cannot do. The free limits are on each tool page: 200 MB per file for browser tools, and 50 MB for server tools. If a tool cannot open a file, we tell you at the start, not at the end.
No CDN
The open source libraries we use come from https://devralpublic.nousworks.co. The page sends no request to a third server. For the library list and the licenses, read Open Source Licenses.
Who makes it
A small team builds Filewand. We publish the product under nousworks.co. The legally responsible party is Nous Works.
This is how we get money: we show ads in free use, and we sell a Pro subscription. We do not sell data. We do not read your files.
