Your files never leave your computerHow it works
- Choose your PNG files or drag them into the drop area. JPG files also work.
- Set the quality. 85 is a good start for the web.
- Press Convert and download the WebP files.
Why this tool
- Files stay on your computer. There is no upload.
- A transparent PNG becomes a transparent WebP.
- Clearly smaller than PNG for the same look.
- It also accepts JPG input.
- Convert up to 50 files in one run.
On most web pages, images carry the weight. PNG is lossless, so it is heavy. WebP gives the same look in a much smaller file, and it keeps the main strength of PNG, which is transparency. That makes it the natural pick for site images.
Compatibility is no longer a problem. Chrome and Firefox supported WebP for years. Safari joined with version 14. Every current browser since 2020 shows WebP. The reader installs nothing.
Set the quality by the job. For photos and background images, 80 to 85 is enough. For product shots and images people zoom into, use 90. For icons and flat graphics with few colors the gain is small. Keep PNG there, or use SVG, which is often a better answer.
This page also accepts JPG input, so you can convert a mixed folder in one run.
One warning. WebP is good for browsers and risky for email. If you do not know the reader program, send a JPG.
Frequently asked questions
Do my files go to a server?
No. The work runs in your browser. Your file never leaves your computer.
Does every browser show WebP?
Yes. Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari 14 and later show WebP. Since 2020 there is no problem in current browsers.
How much smaller does it get?
At quality 85, a PNG photo usually drops a lot. For icons and flat graphics with few colors, the gain is smaller.
Is transparency kept?
Yes. WebP carries transparent areas. Logos and icons keep their empty background.
How does this help page speed?
A smaller image shortens the largest contentful paint. On pages with many images the effect is clear.
When should I not use WebP?
Do not use it for an email attachment, or when you do not know the reader program. Old desktop software may not open WebP.
