WebP to PNG

Drop your WebP files and download them as PNG. The work runs in your browser, so your files stay on your computer.

WEBP

Your files never leave your computer

How it works

  1. Choose your WebP files or drag them into the drop area.
  2. The target format is PNG. There is nothing to set.
  3. Press Convert and download the PNG files.

Why this tool

  • Files stay on your computer. There is no upload.
  • A transparent WebP becomes a transparent PNG.
  • PNG is lossless, so there is no second quality loss.
  • Convert up to 50 files in one run.
  • The result opens in Word, PowerPoint and old image programs.

You download an image from a web page and the file ends in .webp. The browser shows it fine. Then you try to place it in a document and it is refused. The print shop says it cannot open the file. An older image program does not know it. This is the usual WebP problem: full support inside browsers, little support outside them.

PNG is the universal answer. Every operating system, every office program and every print tool reads PNG. It also carries transparency, so a logo in a WebP file keeps its empty background as a PNG.

Expect one side effect: file size. WebP uses lossy compression, so it drops some detail to get small. PNG is lossless and keeps every pixel. The same image can be two to five times larger as a PNG. This is normal. It does not mean the quality dropped.

Set the right expectation as well. Detail already lost inside the WebP does not come back. PNG only stops further loss from this point. If you can reach the source file, make the PNG from that instead.

If the PNG is too heavy, use "Compress Image" to lower the pixel width.

Frequently asked questions

Do my files go to a server?

No. The work runs in your browser. Your file never leaves your computer.

Why do some programs not open WebP?

WebP is a web format from after 2010. Browsers support it, but desktop programs came late. Old Photoshop needs a plug-in. Some Office versions and print tools do not know it at all.

Does the file get larger?

Yes, often much larger. WebP uses lossy compression. PNG stores every pixel. A difference of two to five times is normal.

Do I get the lost detail back?

No. Detail lost inside the WebP file does not come back in the PNG. PNG only stops any new loss.

What happens to an animated WebP?

You get the first frame only. If you need the motion, keep the original file, or build an animation from your own frames with "GIF Maker".

Should I pick JPG or PNG?

Pick PNG for transparency, logos, screenshots and sharp lines. For a photo where the file must stay small, use the "WebP to JPG" page.
