Why this tool
- Files stay on your computer. There is no upload.
- Three modes: pixels, percent and preset.
- Presets: ID photo, passport, Instagram, Full HD and A4 at 300 dpi.
- With the ratio lock on, one side is enough.
- Fit modes: fill and crop, fit and pad, or stretch.
People mix up resize and compress. Compression lowers the byte count. The pixel size stays the same. Resizing changes the pixels. It turns a 4000 pixel wide photo into a 1080 pixel one. For the web and for social media, that is usually the real need.
There are three modes. In pixel mode you type the sides. With the ratio lock on, one side is enough. In percent mode you make a quick call, such as half the size. In preset mode you pick from a list: ID photo 531x709, passport 413x531, Instagram square 1080x1080, story 1080x1920, Full HD, 4K and A4 at 300 dpi.
A preset has a fixed ratio. Your photo often has a different one. That is why there are three fit modes. Fill and crop fills the frame and cuts the edges. It suits profile pictures. Fit and pad keeps all of the photo and fills the rest with your color. It suits product shots and print. Use stretch only when the ratio does not matter.
The tool shrinks in steps. The image goes to half, then half again, then to the target. This leaves fewer jagged edges than one big step.
If the file is still heavy, go to "Compress Image" from the result screen.
Frequently asked questions
Do my files go to a server?
No. The work runs in your browser. Your file never leaves your computer.
How do I keep the ratio?
With "Keep the ratio" on, type only the width. The tool finds the height. Turn it off to set both sides. The image then stretches.
Can I enlarge a small image?
Yes, with "Enlarge small images". But this does not add detail. The tool only spreads the pixels you already have.
What happens to a photo that does not fit the preset?
You pick one of three actions. Fill and crop cuts the edges. Fit and pad shows all of the photo and fills the rest with your color. Stretch changes the ratio.
Does the quality drop?
The tool shrinks the image in steps, so the edges stay smooth. For JPG and WebP output there is also a quality slider.
What are the limits?
200 MB per file and 50 files per run. Pro allows 2 GB per file.
