- Press Compress, compare the two sizes and download the file.
Why this tool
- The video stays on your computer. There is no upload.
- Three quality levels and four resolution options.
- The size before and after is shown side by side.
- The output is H.264 and AAC, which plays in every player.
- Free. No account, no watermark. 200 MB per file.
A video file becomes a problem when it meets a limit. WhatsApp stops at 16 MB, email attachments at 25 MB, and school or work portals often ask for 50 MB. A one-minute 4K clip from a phone is easily 200 MB, because each second is written at a high bit rate.
Compression re-encodes the picture. This tool writes the video again with H.264 and writes the audio as AAC at 128 kbps. The quality setting controls how much data each frame gets. At the high level the picture stays close to the source. At the low level, fast scenes lose detail. The largest gain comes from the resolution. A 1080p recording at 720p is often one third of the size, and the difference is hard to see on a phone.
This tool runs in your browser. The video engine downloads once, about 30 MB, and stays in the cache. The engine uses one core, so it is slower than a desktop program. A one-minute 1080p video can take a few minutes. In exchange, your file stays on your computer, there is no upload and there is no queue.
If the result is still too large, you have two options. Lower the resolution one more step, or keep only the part you need. "Trim Video" lets you set a start and an end, and a shorter clip gives a smaller file.
Frequently asked questions
Does my file go to a server?
No. The compression runs in your browser. The video never leaves your computer. Open the network tab and see for yourself.
Why is it slow?
The video engine runs on one core in the browser. A one-minute 1080p video can take a few minutes. A lower resolution makes it much faster.
Why do I wait on the first run?
The video engine downloads once, about 30 MB. After that it comes from the browser cache and you do not wait again.
Which formats does it open?
MP4, MOV, M4V, WEBM, MKV, AVI, 3GP and MTS. The output is always MP4.
How much smaller does it get?
A phone recording at medium quality usually loses more than half its size. An already compressed video gains little, so lower the resolution.
What is the size limit?
200 MB per file. For a larger video, take the part you need with "Trim Video" first.
