Sending a deck as a PPTX file usually costs you something. If the reader lacks your font, headings spill out of their boxes. A version difference moves the layout. On a phone the file opens slowly. For a deck shared before a meeting, a PDF is the safer format.
During the conversion each slide becomes one PDF page. The slide size is kept, so a 16:9 deck gives wide pages and a 4:3 deck gives pages closer to a square. Colors, background images, tables and charts all move across. The page order matches the slide order.
Three things do not survive. Animations and slide transitions do not run, and each slide prints in its final state, so content that builds up works better as separate slides. Embedded video cannot play, and a poster frame takes its place. Speaker notes stay out of the output.
If you plan to hand the file to an audience, watch the size. Image-heavy decks pass 30 MB easily. "Compress PDF" usually brings that down to a few MB. To share single slides, "PDF to JPG" turns each page into a picture.
Frequently asked questions
Does my file go to a server?
Yes. LibreOffice on our server does the conversion. The file travels over an encrypted connection and is deleted when the job ends, within 1 hour at the latest.
What happens to animations?
Animations and transitions do not run in a PDF. Each slide is printed in its final state. To show a list that builds up, split the steps across separate slides.
Are speaker notes included?
No. The output holds the slides only. For notes, export a notes layout from your presentation program as well.
How do slides with video come out?
A video cannot play, so its poster frame is printed instead. Audio is not carried over either.
What are the limits?
Free use allows 50 MB per file and 20 jobs per day. Pro allows 2 GB per file.
Can I get the slides as images?
Yes. Convert to PDF first, then use "PDF to JPG" to save each page as a picture.
